New Updates for the F-2-7 Visa Point System

New Updates for the F-2-7 Visa Point System

https://youtu.be/sCdSMQM5HH0

The F-2-7 visa point system has recently been updated to make the process fairer and more flexible for professional workers. Here are the three most important changes:

1. Better Recognition for Time Spent Abroad

Normally, spending too much time outside of Korea can count against your residency requirements. However, certain jobs require workers to be overseas as part of their daily duties. For Fisheries Enterprise Managers (E-7-1) and Ship Officers (E-5), the government now recognizes that being at sea or abroad is a necessary part of the job. This means that time spent working outside the country will now be counted as time spent in Korea when calculating visa points.

2. More Flexible Points for Top University Graduates

If you graduated from a world-class university, you can earn significant bonus points. The new rule changes how these points are awarded:

-The Old Way: Points were based on whether your school was ranked in the top lists at the time you graduated.

-The New Way: Points are now based on your application date. If your university was listed in the QS Top 500 or Times Top 200 at any point within the five years before you apply or renew your visa, you are eligible for the bonus points.

3. Stricter Rules for Volunteer Work Points

While you can still earn extra points by volunteering in Korea, the requirements have become more specific. To prevent confusion, you must now meet three specific criteria at the same time to receive credit.

F-2-7 Visa (Points-Based Residence Visa) — Recent Changes & Application Now!!

F-2-7 Visa (Points-Based Residence Visa) — Recent Changes & Application Now!!

1. *(Adding) More Time Abroad Now Counts as Time in Korea (for Certain Workers)

People who work in Fisheries Enterprise Manager (E-7-1 visa) or as Ship Officers (E-5 visa) often spend long periods at sea or overseas - that's just part of their job.

Previously, time spent outside Korea could hurt their chances of qualifying for the F-2-7 visa, because the visa requires you to have lived in Korea for a certain amount of time.

* What changed: Time spent overseas for work (such as being on an international ship) will now count as time spent in Korea. This makes it much easier for these workers to meet the residency requirement when applying to extend or change their visa.

2. Big Bonus Points for Graduates of Top World Universities

If you graduated from a globally ranked university within the last ** 5 years before applying, you can receive significantly more points than graduates of regular Korean universities.

* Qualifying universities:

·Ranked in the Top 500 by QS World University Rankings, OR

·Ranked in the Top 200 by Times Higher Education (THE)

** Note: The old rules used a fixed graduation year cutoff, meaning people who graduated before 2014 couldn't benefit. The new rules use a rolling 5-year window from your *application *date, which is more flexible and fair.

* Points by degree level:

·Top World University PhD(30), Domestic PhD(10),

·Top World University Master Degree(20), Domestic Master’s Degree(7),

·Top World University Bachelor’s Degree(15), Domestic Bachelor’s Degree(5),

** Two things to keep in mind:

If you have multiple degrees, only your highest-scoring degree counts. All bonus points combined cannot exceed 40 points total.

3. Clearer Rules for Earning Extra Points Through Volunteering

The F-2-7 visa uses a points system - the more points you have, the better your chances. One way to earn extra (bonus) points is by doing volunteer work in Korea.

Before, the rules weren't very specific. Now, three things must all be met at the same time to get points: how long you've been volunteering, how many times you volunteered, and how many total hours you put in.

** Here's a simple breakdown:

· 7 points: 3 years or more + 18 times or more + 150 hours or more

· 5 points: 2–3 years + 12 times or more + 100 hours or more

· 1 point: 1–2 years + 6 times or more + 50 hours or more

Thinking of Starting Your Own Business? Keep Your F-2-7 Visa Safe!!

Thinking of Starting Your Own Business? Keep Your F-2-7 Visa Safe!!

The F-2-7 (Points-Based) Visa is one of the best ways to live and work in Korea. It gives you the freedom that other visas don’t.

We see many talented people making big moves with it:

· IT Professionals (E-7-1 Visa) who switch to an F-2-7 Visa to launch their own startups.

· Teachers (E-2 Visa) who get an F-2-7 Visa to finally open their own language schools.

It’s exciting to be your own boss! But there is one thing many people forget: *The Extension.

- Getting the visa is just the beginning-you have to make sure you can keep it.

O Two Simple Rules for a Smooth Extension

1. Keep Your Points High (80+ Points):

To stay on an F-2-7 Visa, you must always maintain at least 80 points. If you change jobs or your situation changes, your points might drop. It’s always good to check your score regularly.

2. Watch Your Income:

Unlike a permanent visa(F-5 Visa), the F-2-7 Visa requires you to earn a certain amount every year to renew it. Usually, this is at least the minimum annual wage from the previous year.

* Important Note: If you quit your job to start a business right after getting your visa, your income might drop temporarily. This can make your extension very difficult. Planning ahead is the key!

The F-2-7 Visa is a great tool for your life in Korea, but it requires careful preparation. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

At VISA in KOREA, we make the process simple and stress-free. Whether you are extending your visa or changing your status, we provide the expert advice you need to stay safe and successful.

Important Fact Check: Does Your E-7-4 Visa Time Reset When Applying for F-2-99 Visa?

Important Fact Check: Does Your E-7-4 Visa Time Reset When Applying for F-2-99 Visa?

Hello! This is JANG Man-ik from VISA in KOREA.

Today, I want to talk about a very important topic: the F-2-99 visa and your working period.

Recently, there is a confusing rumor online.

Some people say that even if you change to a D-10 (Job Seeking) visa, your past years on an E-7-4 visa will still be counted for the F-2-99 visa.

This is NOT true.

Here is the real rule: 실제 룰은 아래와 같습니다.

If you have an E-7-4 visa for 4 years, but you quit and change to a D-10 visa, your 5-year clock resets to zero.

Even if you find a new job and get an E-7-4 visa again for 2 years, your total time is only 2 years, not 6.

The previous 4 years are gone because the D-10 visa breaks the continuous period needed for the F-2-99 visa.

This is a very important point.

If you only have 2 years on your new visa, you must wait 3 more years to apply for the F-2-99 visa.

Visa rules are tricky and change often.

Before you quit your job or change your visa, please check with a professional. You can always contact me at VISA in KOREA for expert advice.

Don't let wrong information ruin your future in Korea. Get the right facts and plan your career safely. Thank you!

Why Your E-7-4 VISA Period Resets to Zero When You Apply For F-2-99 VISA?? Is it TRUE??

Hello, I am Jang Man-ik from VISA in KOREA, and today I want to share some very important information about the F-2-99 visa.

Recently, there has been some confusing information on social media saying that your past work years are still counted even if you change your visa, but I must tell you the truth.

If you switch from an E-7-4 visa to a D-10 visa to look for a new job, your previous working period is reset to zero.

For example, imagine you worked for 4 years on an E-7-4 visa and then switched to a D-10 visa; those 4 years will unfortunately disappear from your record.

Even if you find a new company and get an E-7-4 visa again for 2 more years, your total time is not 6 years.

In the eyes of the immigration office, you have only completed 2 years on your new visa because the D-10 visa breaks the continuous period required for the F-2-99 visa.

This means you would need to work for 3 more years from that point to finally reach the 5-year requirement for residency.

Please be very careful before quitting your job or changing your visa status, as it can seriously delay your future plans in Korea.

If you have any questions or need a fact check, always consult with a professional at VISA in KOREA to stay safe and protect your career.

Unlocking Professional Freedom: How to Transition from the E-2 Visa to the F-2-7 Residency Visa

Unlocking Professional Freedom: How to Transition from the E-2 Visa to the F-2-7 Residency Visa

For many expats in Korea, the E-2 visa is the starting line. It’s a great way to enter the country, but it comes with a major catch: you are legally restricted to teaching languages. If you’ve built a career in marketing, tech, or any other professional field, you’ll eventually hit a "visa ceiling."

The solution? The F-2-7 Points-Based Residency Visa. Here is the roadmap of how a professional makes that transition.

1. The Strategy: Understanding the Points System

Unlike the E-2, which depends on a specific job contract, the F-2-7 is earned through a Points Criteria Table. You need to score at least 80 points out of a total 200 (though the higher, the better for renewals). The key pillars are:

1) Age: Points peak in your late 20s and 30s.

2) Income: This is a heavy hitter. The higher your annual taxable income (proven by a Certificate of Income Amount), the more points you gain.

3) Education: Points for having a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD (extra points if the degree is from a Korean university).

4) Korean Proficiency (KIIP): Completing the Korea Immigration & Integration Program is almost mandatory to hit the 80-point mark comfortably.

2. The Procedure: Step-by-Step

The transition isn't just about having the points; it's about the timing and the paperwork.

1) Preparation of the "Big Three": You must secure your Degree Certificates (apostilled), your Annual Income Proof (from the tax office), and your KIIP Completion Certificate.

2) The Points Self-Assessment: Before booking an appointment, you calculate your score. If you are even one point short, the application will be rejected.

3) The Employment Contract: Even though the F-2-7 Visa offers more freedom, for the initial change from E-2 Visa, you typically need a contract with a Korean company that meets specific salary requirements.

4) Immigration Visit: You submit your documents at the Immigration Office. The screening process usually takes 3 to 6 weeks.

3. The "Why" behind the Change

Why go through this mountain of paperwork?

1) Job Flexibility: You can work in marketing, management, or even start your own business without needing a new visa for every move.

2) No Sponsor Dependency: While you still need a job, your residency is tied to you, not just your employer.

3) Family Support: It is much easier for your spouse to find work on a dependent visa (F-2-71 Visa) under an F-2-7 Visa holder.

The jump from E-2 Visa to F-2-7 Visa is more than just a change in status—it’s a transition from being a guest instructor to becoming a long-term professional resident in the Korean ecosystem.

Stay tuned for my upcoming video where I’ll screen-share the points table and show you exactly how to maximize your score!

At VISA in KOREA, we offer visa change applications at truly reasonable prices for those transitioning from an E-2 visa to an F-2-7 visa.

Essential Guide to the F-2-R (Region-Specific Residence) Visa

Essential Guide to the F-2-R (Region-Specific Residence) Visa

✅ Basic Requirements

To qualify, you must meet one of the following academic or professional tracks:

- Academic Track: Hold at least an Associate Degree from a Korean university.

- Professional Track: Hold a valid work visa (E-7 series, F-7-4, etc.) with a previous year's income exceeding the local living wage.

- Common Requirement: Completion of the Social Integration Program (KIIP) Level 4 or higher.

💡 5 Expert Tips for Your Success

1. Location is Strategy:

Your employer must be located in a designated "Population Decline Region." While 89 regions are currently designated, only a specific subset actively participates in the F-2-R program. Selecting the right municipality is the first step.

2. Flexible Industry Options:

Unlike many other visas, the F-2-R offers great flexibility. You can work in diverse sectors, including manufacturing, restaurants, and hotels, provided the company meets the regional criteria.

3. The "Living Wage" Standard"

You must secure a job and sign an employment contract before applying. Your annual salary must meet the local government's living wage standard, which typically ranges between 30M to 31M KRW.

4. The Recommendation Letter Factor:

A formal recommendation from the local provincial or metropolitan government is mandatory. Since processing times vary significantly by region, timing your application is crucial to avoid delays.

5. Smart Extensions & Family Benefits:

For your first extension, there is some flexibility regarding income. Most importantly, if both spouses work, your combined household income can be used to meet the requirement—making this an excellent choice for families.
